Locus Ultra—Rumored Underoath Side Project—Makes Live Debut

The internet has been buzzing with speculation over the true identity of Locus Ultra, with many rumors suggesting the masked and mysterious outfit could be a creative project led by members of Underoath—possibly as part of a promotional stunt for their upcoming album.

The phrase ‘Locus Ultra’ has surfaced in recent Underoath marketing materials, and imagery tied to the project was seemingly displayed on the backdrop during Underoath’s January 30th show in Honolulu. However, rumors reached a new peak following Locus Ultra’s first two live performances aboard the ‘Emo’s Not Dead Cruise’ this past week.

According to Reddit, multiple members of Underoath were reportedly spotted on the cruise, despite the band not being listed on the bill. Adding to the speculation, footage from Locus Ultra’s performances shows their drummer sporting a red bandana—a signature look often worn by Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie.

“WE HAVE BEEN LOCUS ULTRA.

AN IDEA THAT IS HOUSED IN BEING FREE, EXPRESSING LOVE FOR MUSIC, CREATIVITY, HONESTY AND THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT THOSE IDEAS. LIFE IS MORE THAN NUMBERS, STATUS, IDENTITY AND PROFIT. IF ANYTHING, THEY ARE THE VERY THINGS THAT DILUTE OUR TRUE PURPOSE.

IN A WORLD THAT IS MARRED BY CHAOS AND PIAS, IT IS RARE THAT PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED, YET ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE THEIR TRUE SELVES. SOMETIMES PRETENDING TO BE ANYTHING ELSE IS HEALING.

TONIGHT WAS ONE OF FIVE NIGHTS TOTAL THAT THIS BODY OF WORK WILL EVER BE PERFORMED IN IT’S ENTIRETY. OUR GOAL IS TO NOT TRY AND MAKE HISTORY, BUT SHARE A MOMENT IN TIME WITH PEOPLE THAT WE OWE THE WORLD TO.

THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY IT TAKES TO PUT YOUR WHOLE SELF INTO A CREATIVE VENTURE IS EXHAUSTING AND THIS WILL BE A NIGHT THAT WE HOLD DEAR TO OUR HEARTS FOREVER.

THANK YOU TO E.N.D. AND OUR ENTIRE TEAM FOR MAKING THIS DREAM POSSIBLE. WE THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING AND BEING A PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL AND WE HOPE, ALBIET FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE FOR A BIT AND BE YOUR TRUE SELF.

As stated in the band’s announcement, only five shows are scheduled, two of which recently took place aboard the ‘Emo’s Not Dead Cruise’. The remaining three performances will feature support from Norma Jean and LIMBS and are set to unfold as follows:

02/11 Orlando, FL – The Abbey
02/12 Tampa, FL – The Orpheum
