It’s no secret that Lorna Shore have become one of the most dominant forces in modern deathcore. Since emerging as a technical powerhouse alongside bands like Suicide Silence and early Bring Me The Horizon, they’ve built a reputation on virtuosic musicianship, epic breakdowns, and Will Ramos’ commanding vocals. With I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me, their fifth studio album and third with Ramos, the band take a cautious step toward expanding their sound while largely remaining within the formula that has defined them.
One of the most interesting aspects of the record is the band’s attempt to lean into Gothenburg-style melodic death metal, an approach first hinted at on “Glenwood“. Harmonized leads, grandiose key changes, and atmospheric orchestration appear throughout, adding a melodic layer to the band’s typically crushing, breakdown-heavy sound. It’s a notable evolution and shows a willingness to explore beyond pure deathcore, even if the overall album doesn’t stray far from what fans have come to expect.

Tracks like “Death Can Take Me” and “War Machine” are highlights, demonstrating that the band can still push boundaries. “Death Can Take Me” channels their black metal influences with a dark, brooding atmosphere and inventive rhythms, while “War Machine” embraces a midtempo, thrash-inflected groove that feels refreshingly distinct from the band’s typical formula. These moments show that Lorna Shore are capable of versatility, even when the majority of the album sticks to a familiar structure of atmospheric build-ups, rapid-fire verses, soaring choruses, and enormous breakdowns.
Elsewhere, the album leans heavily on melodic, almost pop-structured passages. Songs like “Unbreakable” and “Lionheart” feature catchy, extended choruses and layered synths, sometimes at the expense of the raw intensity that defined earlier releases. While the musicianship remains top-notch and Ramos delivers his trademark vocal acrobatics, the repeated formulas across many tracks can feel predictable, stretching songs past five minutes without offering anything dramatically new.
Even so, there’s plenty to admire. The band’s technical precision is staggering, the orchestration adds a cinematic quality, and their experimentation with melody shows a willingness to grow. For fans of Lorna Shore’s signature sound, this album delivers exactly what they’ve come to love—grandiose, heavy, and meticulously composed deathcore with occasional moments of surprising freshness.
I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me isn’t a radical reinvention, but it does hint at the potential for Lorna Shore to further explore melodic and atmospheric territory in the future. For listeners who appreciate extreme technical skill combined with epic, orchestrated deathcore, the album is a strong addition to the band’s catalog.
