Tragic news has emerged from Atlanta as William Brent Hinds, co-founder and former guitarist of Mastodon, has died following a motorcycle accident on Wednesday night.
According to Atlanta First News, police say Hinds was riding his Harley Davidson when a BMW SUV failed to yield while turning at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard. The collision proved fatal. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his death.
Hinds, 51, was best known as one of the founding members of Mastodon, which he formed in 2000 alongside Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher, and Brann Dailor. Over the years, he became a defining force in shaping the Atlanta-based band’s unique blend of heavy metal, sludge, and progressive rock.
Earlier this year, the band announced they had “mutually decided to part ways” with Hinds, though just this month he revealed in an interview that he was “kicked out.”
Hinds leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of heavy metal’s most innovative guitarists, with fans and peers worldwide mourning the loss.

As a rider, we are taught if somebody is in the middle lane and going to turn left in front of you, even if they are flashing their lights, honking their horn and waving at you, assume they DO NOT SEE YOU.
