Mastodon made their official return to the stage tonight, May 8th, performing a headlining set at The Factory in Chesterfield, MO. This marked their second live appearance since parting ways with longtime vocalist/guitarist Brent Hinds this past March.
The band previously made a surprise appearance on March 9th at the inaugural ‘Tool Live In The Sand’ festival, where they honored a prior commitment with YouTuber and musician Ben Eller temporarily filling in on guitar.
Tonight’s show featured a different face: Canadian guitarist Nick Johnston stepped in as the new live guitarist. While Mastodon have yet to make an official statement regarding his ongoing role, it’s presumed Johnston will be handling guitar duties for their upcoming tour plans.
Johnston brings an impressive resume to the stage, having performed with Plini, Between The Buried And Me, and contributing to recordings from Polyphia, Periphery, Intervals, and more.
