Mastodon have released their new single “Your Ghost Again,” delivering the first glimpse of the band’s next chapter following the departure of longtime guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds.
The track arrives more than a year after Mastodon and Hinds ended their decades-long run together in early 2025. The split marked one of the most significant lineup changes in the group’s history, with Hinds having played a major role in shaping the band’s sound since its formation. Hinds later died in a motorcycle accident in August 2025.
Beyond serving as a milestone release for the band, “Your Ghost Again” is also expected to be the first single from Mastodon’s upcoming ninth studio album. Reports indicate that work on the record has already been completed, setting the stage for additional announcements in the near future.
Production credits for the song list the band alongside producer Patrik Berger and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou. Berger is known for his work across a wide range of artists, while Ballou remains one of the most respected producers in modern heavy music through his work both behind the console and with Converge.
The song also highlights the growing presence of Mastodon’s newest members. Guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira both received performance and songwriting credits on the track, signaling that the pair have become active contributors to the band’s creative process as Mastodon moves forward with its revamped lineup.
Additional news could be on the horizon as well. Rumors of a forthcoming North American headlining trek, reportedly titled ‘The Poisonous Weapons Tour,’ have continued to circulate online. Promotional artwork tied to the rumored run has surfaced through mastodonrocks.com, with Deafheaven and Alcest reportedly attached as support acts.
Although Mastodon have yet to officially announce the tour, dates for the rumored run have already begun appearing online, suggesting that a formal reveal may be imminent.
