Denver-based post-hardcore band Miss Fortune have publicly accused their former label, We Are Triumphant, and owner Greg Long of withholding royalties and exploiting their music without legal ownership of the masters. The band, independent since 2023 after departing the label (which they were signed to between 2018-2019), say they’ve only been paid $1,800 in the last seven years despite their album How The Story Ends being streamed over 10 million times.
In a recent social media statement, Miss Fortune detailed their legal grievances, including ignored certified demands and plans to file suit in Los Angeles Superior Court for:
- Breach of contract
- Non-payment of royalties
- Declaratory relief to regain their rights
They accuse Greg Long of collecting royalties for years without paying the band, failing to respond to legal requests, and demanding $8,000 just to return ownership of their own music.
Adding another layer to the story, We Are Triumphant announced in March that they plan to shut down operations sometime this year.
The band urged fans and artists to stand with them in the fight for artists’ rights and control over their own work.
Miss Fortune’s full statement:
“We didn’t want to go public with this. We tried to handle it quietly and respectfully. But now, we owe it to our fans — and to every artist who’s ever been taken advantage of by a shady record label.
Greg Long (We Are Triumphant / Life or Death LLC) has been collecting royalties off our music for years without paying us, responding to legal demands, or showing a single real accounting of what we’re owed.
He never legally acquired the masters to How The Story Ends, but he’s still exploiting it. That includes our classics like “Die For You,” “The Bottom,” and more.
We’ve only been paid $1,800 in 7 years on that album — and it’s streamed over 10 million times.
He walked away from the contracts, ignored his obligations, and now wants to charge $8,000 just to give us our own music back.
We sent a certified legal demand 30 days ago outlining multiple breaches across three albums. He’s ignored it. Again. So we’re filing in Los Angeles Superior Court for: breach of contract, non-payment of royalties, and declaratory relief to get our rights back.
This is bigger than money. This is about owning our story — and not letting someone else bury the work we created.

Ahhh the ole “last time we had drama was 5 years ago time to start again”
Honestly I will say that WAT, has taken in personally some of my favorite bands (including Neek Deep). We also gotta realize that you don’t sign to a label until you and your band are incapable of doing the work by yourself. A label isn’t a place where you go to “get rich fast” the money/streams/work should be generating from the band itself from the money they are already investing. Profits should not be pocketed they should be going right back to press outlets,merch, marketing,(to name some of the few). Anyways like yea it’s never fair when a label put you in this sort of predicament because the thing is at the end of the day it is a “business” and you do sign a contract that you should have your entertainment lawyer read before signing. However every band makes mistakes when it comes to contracts and agreements as the play on words always seems to good to be true. The cold truth to a lot of it is money. If you don’t have money to pay then you don’t have money to play.
Their singer literally just called me broke a few weeks back. 😂
