My Chemical Romance surprised fans during the first of two sold-out shows at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA this past Saturday, July 26th, by giving a long-shelved track its long-awaited live debut. The band performed “War Beneath The Rain” live for the first time ever, a song originally written for their unreleased concept album The Paper Kingdom—a project scrapped during the group’s initial 2012–2013 breakup.

The emotional debut was dedicated to the late producer Doug McKean, who worked with the band on the abandoned record and tragically passed away in June 2022 due to a brain hemorrhage. From the stage, Gerard Way paid tribute to McKean before launching into the song:
“I don’t remember how long ago it was, but before the band broke up, we had a studio in North Hollywood and we were making a record that never came out and this was one of the songs we really loved from it. It was just us in the studio with our friend Doug McKean, he was there recording it. His family’s here tonight, I want this to go out to them. The song is called ‘The War Beneath The Rain’.”
The live debut of “War Beneath The Rain” comes as the band continues their summer celebration of The Black Parade, the 4x multi-platinum 2006 album that helped define an era. Their current North American stadium run includes the following dates:
08/02 Arlington, TX – Globe Life Field (feat. Garbage)
