Following weeks of controversy over allegations of stolen song ideas, Obscura have officially released their latest album, A Sonication. Serving as the second installment in their conceptual trilogy—following 2021’s A Valediction—this record continues the German progressive technical death metal band’s intricate storytelling.
Accompanying the album’s arrival today (February 7th) is a new music video for “In Solitude”, directed by Mirko Witzki (Caliban, Arch Enemy).
Band mastermind Steffen Kummerer shared his thoughts on the album’s release:
“With A Sonication, our seventh full-length album sees the light of day, and we can’t be more proud of the record and how it turned out. The overall introverted, almost melancholic vibe and pace matches perfectly with the theme of the second album of our ongoing trilogy that started a few years back, releasing A Valediction in 2021. The fragile and human touch, featuring edges and dynamics back to back, turned into a unique album to be heard best with a good system or classy headphones. Obscura will embark on a relentless touring schedule covering the next years. Listen to the record, and see you at a venue near you.”
The band’s upcoming live schedule includes a European/UK run alongside Skeletal Remains and Gorod, followed by their newly announced ‘Shred Fest’ North American tour with Atheist, Origin, Decrepit Birth, and Fractal Universe.
