Our Common Collapse have premiered their new single “Invertebrate,” marking the band’s first new release since signing with Periphery’s 3DOT Recordings.
Earlier this week, the progressive deathcore outfit was announced as the latest addition to the 3DOT Recordings roster, with Periphery themselves describing the group as the heaviest act the label has signed to date.
The newly released track arrives alongside an official music video directed by Austin Scherzberg, offering fans their first taste of new material from the band in several years.
Discussing the song’s lyrical themes, Our Common Collapse guitarist and producer Elliot Merriman explained:
“Lyrically, ‘Invertebrate’ is more direct than much of our previous work. Rather than leaning too far into surrealism and ambiguity, it explores the spineless people who exploit those around them, always looking to take more than they’re willing to give, and the lasting impact they can have on a person’s sense of self and autonomy. While rooted in personal experiences, the themes are meant to resonate on a broader level.”
Merriman also spoke about the band’s approach to its forthcoming material and the evolution of their sound.
“We’ve spent a long time writing and refining this new material and we can’t wait for everyone to hear a more evolved, fully realized version of the band. Every decision from the songwriting to the production was made with the intention of pushing our sound further while staying true to the music we enjoy listening to and creating. This is only the beginning of what we’ve been working on.”
With “Invertebrate,” Our Common Collapse begin a new chapter under the 3DOT Recordings banner while offering a glimpse at the next phase of the band’s increasingly ambitious sound.
