In the wake of heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne’s passing on July 22nd, fans around the world gathered at Black Sabbath Bridge in Birmingham, UK—Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s hometown—to pay tribute to the Prince of Darkness. Flowers, letters, paintings, and other personal tributes quickly transformed the site into a heartfelt memorial.
Sadly, not everyone who visited the site came with good intentions. According to the BBC, a 45-year-old man identified as Parviz Jafari was arrested and charged with theft on August 2nd for allegedly taking flowers left in honor of Osbourne. Jafari is scheduled to appear in court on September 3rd.
In recent weeks, city workers have been collecting flowers from the memorial, mulching them, and relocating them to Ozzy’s final resting place on the grounds of his family’s Buckinghamshire estate. Other items, including letters, paintings, and stuffed toys, are being delivered to the Osbourne family.
The memorial had previously been visited by Ozzy and his bandmates just weeks before his death, and the family’s funeral procession also stopped at the site a day prior to his private service, marking it as a meaningful place for fans and loved ones alike.
