Piggy D. Reflects on Marilyn Manson’s Sobriety: “Who Would’ve Thought He’d Be a Ray of Sunshine in 2024 or 2025?”

Former Rob Zombie bassist/vocalist Piggy D joined Marilyn Manson’s live band in 2023, becoming part of the shock rocker’s ongoing efforts to revive his music career. That return followed a period marked by multiple civil lawsuits and allegations of abuse directed at Manson—some of which have since been settled.

While public perception remains divided, those who’ve seen Manson perform recently have noted a more focused and energized presence on stage. The artist also marked four years of sobriety this past January, a milestone he’s openly acknowledged.

Speaking on The David Ellefson Show—hosted by ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson—Piggy D shared his thoughts on Manson’s transformation:

“As someone who’s been in and out of the program myself over the last 25 years, it’s powerful to witness that kind of miracle again—especially with someone like him. I’ve kind of been joking for the past year, like… who would’ve thought Marilyn Manson in 2024 or 2025 would be a ray of sunshine?

But honestly, it’s amazing. We did a bunch of tours with his band over the years when I was with Rob, and I’d quietly say a little prayer for him. Like, if he could just redirect all that energy in the other direction—man, he could move mountains.”

Manson returned to the stage last year and released the first part of his comeback record, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1. His touring continues throughout 2025 with several shows planned in support of the release.
