Poison The Well’s Jeffrey Moreira Reveals Fast Food-Inspired Teeth On ‘Peace In Place’ Album Cover

Poison The Well vocalist Jeffrey Moreira has opened up about the unusual origins of the cover art for the band’s forthcoming comeback album Peace In Place. The teeth featured on the artwork are, in fact, a dental mold of Moreira’s own mouth—taken nearly a decade ago after he fractured a molar while eating a Wendy’s salad.

In an interview with Revolver, Moreira recalled the bizarre injury:

“This is the stupidest shit ever: I was eating a Wendy‘s salad, and I swear there was a rock in it… I guess I bite pretty hard!”

Though the injury left him in pain for about a year before being treated, the dental mold stayed with him—and eventually became a deeply personal symbol for the album. He explained:

“It was really the first time that I had seen that part of my body. That mold showed me a part of me that I could never actually see. I can stand up to a mirror and pull my gums back and try to look back that far into my mouth, but you’re not going to get a good view of it. It’s not like sitting there with the mold, [where] you can see every crack at every angle of that tooth… I felt like the teeth ended up being like this symbol for what the record could be. This record is the teeth that I get to leave behind.”

Peace In Place is set for release on March 20th, with the band debuting a music video for its first single, “Thoroughbreds,” earlier this week. Moreira also shared the personal inspiration behind the track, explaining that it reflects on friendships from his youth that didn’t last:

“I always thought that we would be friends for the rest of our lives. Just because we had made it so long, [I was] like, ‘These people will be a part of my life for the remainder of it, because our bonds are so strong, and we’ve been able to overcome so much stuff throughout the years.’ That actually never happened… Some of my closest friendships that I’ve had for a large part of my life have evaporated in sad ways. A lot of the times I would be like, ‘This seems really stupid that we no longer have a relationship.’ That’s what this song is about.”

The album promises to be a deeply personal return for the influential metalcore outfit, blending introspection with their signature sonic intensity.
