Gold-certified alternative rockers Queens Of The Stone Age have officially announced their ninth studio album, ‘Perfecth’, which is set to arrive on October 30th. Alongside the announcement, the band have debuted the album’s second advance track, “Insignificant Other”.
The new record follows an extensive campaign of increasingly bizarre and comedic teasers from the band. Frontman Josh Homme offered some insight into the unusual title, explaining:
“Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’. And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”
As for “Insignificant Other”, Homme described the song as dealing with the emotional aftermath of someone suddenly disappearing from your life.
“It’s a song about distance. About how someone can be your entire world only to simply vanish. And about the strange vertigo of being on the receiving end of that.”
The band have also continued their strange promotional campaign with another offbeat video, which was written by Homme and directed by Chapman Baehler. The latest clip features a “Big Chongus” adoption storyline and continues the surreal humor surrounding the album rollout.
Homme co-produced ‘Perfecth’ alongside Queens Of The Stone Age bassist/vocalist Michael Shuman. The pair also incorporated the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which traditionally involves repairing broken objects while highlighting the damage, into the album’s overall creative approach.
“Every song sounds like it’s from a different world. And that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”
