Technical death metal veterans Revocation have unleashed a new music video for “Data Corpse,” a track taken from their latest studio album ‘New Gods, New Masters’.
Released last September through Metal Blade Records, the album continues to serve as the source for the Boston, MA band’s latest visual offering. The new video was directed by David Brodsky, whose previous work includes videos for Cattle Decapitation and Whitechapel, marking another collaboration between Brodsky and Revocation.
According to vocalist/guitarist Dave Davidson, “Data Corpse” tackles the ways social media companies collect and monetize users’ personal information.
“‘Data Corpse’ is about social media companies constantly scouring our personal lives for profit. We unwittingly give up more and more of ourselves every year just to be sold a shinier pair of shoes, all until what’s left of our private lives is picked to the bone.”
Davidson also explained the visual inspiration behind the new clip, which sees him transformed into a mutant cyborg amid a decidedly dystopian setting.
“For the video, we once again worked with the incredible team at MyGoodEye. My transformation into a mutant cyborg was influenced by a lot of the imagery that originated in classic cyberpunk films like Tetsuo and Akira. Enjoy the dystopian grotesqueries.”
Meanwhile, Revocation are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary on the road with the ‘20 Years Of Torment’ North American tour. The trek features Defeated Sanity, Fuming Mouth, and Weeping Death and continues through October 10.
