Melodic hardcore outfit Scowl have unveiled a new remix of Devo’s iconic 1980 hit “Whip It”, marking a special anniversary collaboration tied to the track’s enduring legacy.
According to the band, the remix came together after a direct invitation from the Devo camp, as part of the ongoing celebration surrounding the song’s 45th anniversary.
The release marks a rare 2026 appearance from Scowl, who have remained largely inactive throughout the year, making the remix a notable return to public output for the band.
Originally released in 1980, “Whip It” became the defining track of Devo’s career, earning widespread commercial success and heavy rotation thanks to its distinctive sound and memorable music video. The single was certified gold upon release and later reached platinum status in 2023, more than four decades after its debut.
Now, the song’s legacy continues to expand with Scowl’s reinterpretation, introducing a modern hardcore edge to one of new wave’s most recognizable tracks.
