Scowl Vocalist Kat Moss Confirms Band Hiatus, Addresses Absence And Future Plans

The absence of Scowl throughout 2026 hasn’t gone unnoticed, and now fans finally have some clarity. The band’s last live appearance came in December 2025, and after quietly stepping away from touring plans this year, speculation began to swirl about a possible breakup—especially as members appeared to explore other opportunities.

In a new interview with Good Times, vocalist Kat Moss confirmed that Scowl are currently on hiatus—but not done for good.

Rather than internal conflict, the break stems from emotional burnout and personal hardship. Moss revealed that the pressures of constant touring, combined with the loss of a close friend in 2025, forced her to step back and reassess.

“I really wasn’t really in my body or present, in fact, I think I had a lot of resentment at the time. I was so fucking overwhelmed I just wanted to tuck my tail and run away from everything.”

That loss hit particularly hard, as her friend Bridget Smith had been closely tied to the band’s journey, even choreographing the video for “Psychic Dance Routine.” Trying to process that grief while traveling and promoting new material proved overwhelming.

“We’d be walking around somewhere in Spain, in a beautiful city with the sun shining down on my shoulders, looking at this beautiful architecture, and I’m just sobbing. Everyone would ask ‘Are you ok?’ and I’d say, ‘Yeah, I’m ok. I just didn’t get much sleep last night.’”

The band also faced internal changes in 2025 with the departure of guitarist Malachi Greene, adding another layer of transition during an already difficult period.

Moss has since begun easing back into performing, recently returning to the stage on May 1st for a one-off set fronting a cover project. The experience seems to have reignited her creative spark while allowing space to rediscover herself outside of Scowl’s rapid rise.

“I’m really excited to unravel who my artistic self is. Scowl turned into a machine. It’s really fucking cool and crazy, but it’s also nice to breathe a little, too.”

Looking ahead, Moss suggested that when Scowl do return, things may look different—particularly when it comes to their relentless touring pace.

“I needed some freedom to breathe, and to process not just the loss but the treasure of it–how bizarre it all was and is. That’s kind of where I’ve been, but now I’m in the position to try new musical avenues. I feel like a big 28-year-old toddler.”

For now, Scowl remain on pause—but very much still a band—taking the time needed before whatever comes next.
