Shields have released a powerful new track titled “Miss Me,” accompanied by an official music video. The British metalcore band’s guitarist/vocalist Samuel Kubrick Finney co-directed the visual alongside Oli Duncanson, adding a deeply personal layer to the release.
The song serves as a tribute to the band’s former guitarist George Christie, who tragically died by suicide in 2018. The loss led Shields to step away from the project for several years, a period the band has described as profoundly difficult.
In a collective statement, the band reflected on that time and the song’s origins:
“Some of you may know this; some of you may not. Shields were a band for many years before we went on a long hiatus in 2018. The principal reason for this was that our dear friend and band member, George Christie, took his own life. It was a harrowing time, and the loss of George cast a huge cloud over us that required us to stop pursuing Shields as a project.
Fast forward to 2024: Joe and Sam began writing ‘Death & Connection’. Joe had a song he had written that was never intended for this band—or any other project. That song was ‘Miss Me’, written not long after the funeral. He decided to bring it to Shields, where Joe, Sam, and Larry (previously of Shields) finished it together.
Don’t suffer alone. Someone always cares.”
“Miss Me” will appear on Shields’ upcoming full-length album ‘Death & Connection’, which is set for release on January 30. The track stands as both a memorial and a message of support, underscoring the band’s commitment to honesty, remembrance, and connection through their music.
