Silent Planet vocalist Garrett Russell has shared footage of a bizarre onstage incident that saw him struck in the head by a drone during the band’s set at the ‘Summer Punch’ festival in Warsaw, Poland on June 18th.
As seen in the video, the drone became tangled in Russell’s hair mid-performance, forcing him to wrestle it free while continuing the set.
Russell addressed the incident the following day (June 19th), posting a reflective message alongside footage of the moment:
“took a drone to the dome in Warsaw. was raW
today we are driving through Ukraine en route to Kyiv.
perhaps it’s fitting this happened right after we played ‘Panopticon’ and yelled a bunch of words about mass surveillance, ai… but sometimes you just break a couple lenses in the panopticon and keep moving. a fistful of hair (and irony) later, i give you this cinematic masterpiece by @dontshootskrlx
my bandmates and crew are the most badass n talented humans on this planet. it’s a gift to share these moments where we pull each other (literally) thru time
anyways… Ukraine will be free and it’s up to us to cocreate a better future . see you there
my only seraphim”
After freeing the drone, Russell ultimately destroyed it onstage and threw it into the crowd, with strands of hair still caught in its propellers.
The incident comes as Silent Planet continue their ongoing European run, which includes a notably rare set of upcoming performances in Ukraine, a country where few Western acts have toured since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022.
