Sleep Theory Issue Statement Following Passing Of Concertgoer After Medical Emergency At Pointfest

Sleep Theory have issued a statement following the passing of a concertgoer who had previously sustained an injury during the band’s performance at Pointfest in St. Louis, MO on May 16th.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by a family member, 28-year-old Danielle Uskiwich was injured during the set after being struck in the head by a crowd surfer. She later began experiencing severe headaches and was diagnosed with a brain bleed before being hospitalized, where she suffered multiple strokes and underwent surgery for a brain clot. She passed away on May 26th.

Family members have since clarified that while the incident occurred at the show, medical professionals believe an underlying condition may have been present prior to the event.

Danielle’s mother said:

“I feel that I need to clear up some confusion about the series of events that happened with Danielle. Prior to the concert she was having headaches, the doctors believe the clots started forming at that time. The incident at the concert was actually a blessing in disguise to lead her to the hospital. The strokes were going to happen regardless, the concert gave her a fighting chance. Those strokes would’ve happened at any place at any time. I just don’t want the blame to placed where it don’t belong.”

A family friend also added:

“The family would really like everyone to know that it wasn’t the kick that ultimately killed her. The kick actually was kind of a blessing in disguise in kind of a weird way. The kick is what sent her to the hospital, and that is what showed that she already had an underlying issue, and without that kick, we wouldn’t have gotten to say goodbye to her.”

In a statement issued June 1st, Sleep Theory expressed their condolences following the news:

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Danielle Uskiwich’s passing.
Our hearts go out to her friends, family, fiancé, and everyone else who was fortunate enough to know her. What happened is heartbreaking, and we cannot imagine the pain her loved ones are feeling right now.
Over the last few days we have been thinking about Danielle and those closest to her. Please join us in sending them all our love, thoughts, and prayers during this extremely difficult time.
