SLIPKNOT File Lawsuit Over Slipknot.com Domain, Alleging Cybersquatting and Trademark Infringement

Slipknot have taken legal action against an individual accused of cybersquatting the Slipknot.com domain and using it to promote counterfeit merchandise. The lawsuit, filed on October 15th, aims to reclaim the domain and seek damages for alleged trademark violations.

According to the filing, the domain holder has controlled Slipknot.com since 2001, forcing the band to operate their official site under Slipknot1.com. Per Billboard, the band’s attorney Craig Reilly stated in the suit:

“The domain name was registered in an effort to profit off of plaintiff’s goodwill and to trick unsuspecting visitors — under the impression they are visiting a website owned, operated or affiliated with plaintiff — into clicking on web searches and other sponsored links.”

The complaint further alleges that the domain hosts pay-per-click ads directing users to bootleg Slipknot merchandise. Along with reclaiming the domain, the band is also seeking unspecified financial damages for trademark infringement and unfair competition.
