SLIPKNOT’s Self-Titled Album Earns Third Multi-Platinum Certification in the U.S.

Slipknot‘s iconic 1999 self-titled debut has officially earned its third multi-platinum certification in the United States. The masked metal pioneers celebrated the album’s 25th anniversary last year with an extensive tour, solidifying its legacy in the metal world.

On Friday, September 5th, the band released a massive 25th anniversary edition of the album, featuring 59 tracks, coinciding with the announcement of this latest RIAA certification. The album’s previous multi-platinum milestone came on February 5th, 2005, marking its second certification.

For context, a platinum album in the U.S. represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Certifications now include physical and digital sales, as well as streaming, with 10 permanent track downloads equaling one album unit, and 1,500 on-demand audio/video streams counting as one album unit. Additionally, 150 streams of a single song count as one track-equivalent unit.
