SPEED Earn $80,000 New South Wales Music Prize For ‘Only One Mode’

Australian hardcore breakout Speed have been awarded the New South Wales Music Prize, earning $80,000 AUD (approximately $52,000 USD) for their work on their latest album Only One Mode. The government-run initiative recognizes locally created music that has made a “significant impact,” with Speed taking home the top honor over fellow finalists RÜFÜS DU SOL, Shady Nasty and others.

Ahead of accepting the honor at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Sydney tonight, November 24th, the band shared:

“Respectfully, our culture has never been a game nor a competition. But we are honoured to receive this recognition and see this as acknowledgment of the values cultivated by the passionate souls around us.”

Speed also used the moment to spotlight their community, paying respect to the fans, the scene, and those who have supported their rise:

“In 2025, we have a whole new generation of amazing kids all over the country making Sydney and Australian hardcore the sickest it’s ever been… this award belongs to them — the people around us who make it what it is — and we’ll take some time to think about the best way we can pay that forward to keep growing this the right way.”
