Suicide Silence guitarist Mark Heylmun will be sitting out the band’s immediate touring commitments as he focuses on his sobriety and mental health.
Heylmun shared the news in a statement posted on the morning of November 7, confirming that he will not be joining the group for its ongoing Reminders Of Hell Tour. He emphasized that the decision does not signal an exit from the band, as he intends to remain involved behind the scenes while taking the time he needs away from the road.
In his statement, Heylmun explained:
“After A LOT of thought, I’ve decided not to go on the Reminders of Hell Tour. Right now I need to put my sobriety and my mental health first.
I’m not stepping away from Suicide Silence. I’ll still be involved behind the scenes. I’ve had to accept that life on the road has always been a difficult environment for me, and if I want to keep doing this for years to come, some things need to change.
With Graceless coming out, this definitely wasn’t an easy decision. But I know I need to build a solid foundation in my sobriety before I can confidently get back out there.
I’m grateful for everyone who’s supported me, for the band standing behind me, and to Jordan for stepping in.
I’ve got work to do… it’s time to level up and come back stronger than ever.”
– Mark
The guitarist also acknowledged that the timing is particularly difficult with Suicide Silence preparing to release their new album, ‘Graceless’, on November 20. Jordan will step in to cover his touring duties during his absence.
This is not the first time Heylmun has taken an extended break from the group. In 2018, he previously stepped away for a lengthy hiatus that he described at the time as a “radical sabbatical.”
