“Aerials,” the third and final single from System Of A Down‘s landmark 2001 album “Toxicity,” has officially surpassed 1 billion plays on Spotify. The milestone makes it the fourth song from the nü-metal giants to reach the billion-stream mark on the platform. “Aerials” was last certified 2x platinum in the United States on July 19th, 2022.
Two of System Of A Down‘s other billion-streaming tracks also come from “Toxicity.” The band’s signature hit “Chop Suey” has already surpassed 2 billion plays, while the album’s title track currently sits at approximately 1.6 billion streams.
The group’s only other song to enter the billion-stream club on Spotify is “Lonely Day,” which served as the final single from their most recent studio album, 2005’s “Hypnotize.”
“Aerials” now joins a growing collection of classic rock and metal tracks to hit the massive streaming milestone. Recent months have also seen AC/DC‘s “T.N.T.,” Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Crazy Train,” and Led Zeppelin‘s “Immigrant Song” cross the 1 billion-play threshold.
With “Aerials” now added to the tally, three of System Of A Down‘s four billion-streaming songs originate from “Toxicity,” highlighting the continued popularity of the band’s most commercially successful album more than two decades after its release.
