System Of A Down marked the 20th anniversary of their final studio album, Mezmerize, today (November 22nd) with a short retrospective video shared across their social platforms. The clip highlights the closing chapter of the “mezmerize” / “hypnotize” era—one that, unknowingly at the time, would become their last full-length creative run together.
Despite years of fan demand for a follow-up, the 2x platinum mezmerize still stands as the band’s final entry in their studio discography. Internal disagreements surrounding songwriting and business decisions have long kept the group from returning to the studio, leading multiple members to publicly temper expectations about any future album.
Primary songwriter Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan have both expressed doubts over the years about revisiting the process, citing the strain the conflict placed on the creative dynamic.
