Militarie Gun have officially expanded their latest album, ‘God Save The Gun’, with a new deluxe edition that adds four tracks, including a newly recorded cover featuring Anthony Green of Circa Survive.
Originally slated for an August 7 release, the deluxe edition arrived today, September 9, adding three previously unreleased b-sides from the album sessions alongside Green’s take on “Thought You Were Waving.”
The additional material includes “Worlds Always Burning” featuring Mannequin Pussy, “I’ve Said Too Much” featuring Dazy, and “3 AM.”
Frontman Ian Shelton explained that the songs represented a shift away from the inward-looking themes that shaped much of the original album.
“Everything in ‘God Save The Gun’ became so focused on the internal, that when it came to fitting these songs in, it felt like they had stepped outside of that perspective.”
Shelton said the bonus tracks eventually came to represent the feeling of emerging from that introspective headspace and reconnecting with the world around you.
The addition of Anthony Green came about after the Circa Survive vocalist sent Shelton a video of himself performing “Thought You Were Waving.” That initial performance eventually led to the two artists creating an official version together.
“I always love when a cover can, in my opinion, surpass the original version. I hear decisions that Anthony made on it and I go, ‘Damn, why didn’t I think of that?’”
Shelton went on to describe Green’s contribution as an example of how a song can evolve beyond its initial form, adding that Green’s interpretation has even become the version that gets stuck in his head.
‘God Save The Gun’ is now available in its expanded deluxe edition.
