The Mars Volta have officially dropped their ninth studio album, Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacío,—but not before taking a wildly unconventional path to get there.

After the record leaked online months ahead of any formal announcement, the progressive rock icons didn’t scramble to release it digitally or make a statement. Instead, they remained mostly silent and chose to debut the album live—playing it front to back each night during their recently wrapped tour with Deftones and Fleshwater.

Even as full playthroughs took place onstage, the band refrained from publicly acknowledging the album for weeks. Now, the expansive 18-track effort has officially landed on streaming platforms via Clouds Hill, and is available to hear in full across major DSPs.
