Lady Gaga drummer Tosh Peterson recently stepped into unfamiliar territory by taking on Death’s classic 1995 track “Crystal Mountain” as part of a new feature with Drumeo.
For the challenge, Peterson was asked to create his own drum arrangement for the song without first hearing the original percussion performance from legendary drummer Gene Hoglan, also known as “The Atomic Clock.” Instead, Peterson was introduced to the track through a version with the drums completely removed, forcing him to build his interpretation from the ground up.
Despite coming from a vastly different musical background, Peterson delivered a performance that balanced technical precision with his own stylistic approach, offering a fresh take on one of death metal’s most celebrated tracks.
The episode also features Hoglan himself reacting to Peterson’s rendition afterward, offering feedback and insight into the original performance that appeared on Death’s landmark 1995 album ‘Symbolic’.
