Turnstile have reportedly passed on an opportunity to tour alongside Metallica, according to Metallica frontman and guitarist James Hetfield.
Hetfield discussed the situation during a recent episode of his James Hetfield’s Riff Life radio show, revealing that the metal legends had approached the rising melodic hardcore outfit about joining them on the road. While Turnstile ultimately declined the invitation, Hetfield had plenty of praise for the band’s live performances and overall energy.
“We have seen them live, we wanted to get them on tour, and they said no. They’re doing good on their own already. But man, what a vibe they bring. They are so fun. Go see them play if you can. Just like many, many bands, they sound great on their records and recordings, but man, when you see them live, you totally get it. We’ve hung out with them a bit. Super cool guys, super fun. They’ve got a gal in the band now playing, which is fun.”
Turnstile have continued building their profile through extensive touring and festival appearances, with the band’s recent success seemingly giving them plenty of momentum to pursue their own plans rather than take on an opening slot with Metallica.
Metallica have, meanwhile, welcomed other acts from the heavier hardcore and metalcore scenes onto their touring bills. Earlier this year, Knocked Loose joined the group for much of their European and UK touring schedule.
Hetfield’s comments offer an interesting glimpse into the band’s efforts to bring newer heavy acts along for the ride, even when those invitations don’t necessarily lead to a confirmed tour.
