A previously unheard solo recording from late Wayne Static has surfaced online. The unfinished track, titled “Infiltrator,” was shared by Matt Zane as part of his ongoing — and controversial — documentary project focused on the final years of Static and his late wife Tera Wray.
Zane, known for fronting Society 1, is currently producing an unauthorized film examining the couple’s later years together. The project has drawn criticism and objections from both the Static and Wray families, though Zane has continued forward, stating he believes the film honors their legacy.
Static — best known as the founder and frontman of Static‑X — passed away in November 2014 after a fatal mix of prescription drugs and alcohol. Wray died in January 2016.
Documentary And Unreleased Material
The documentary initially launched via a crowdfunding effort that reportedly raised about $400 from four backers before Zane opted to finance the project himself. According to him, the film will recount his time spent with Static and Wray during their later years.
Part of the controversy surrounding the project stems from six unreleased songs Zane claims were written or recorded with Static. The estates of both Static and Wray — along with Static-X — have reportedly denied permission for those recordings to be used in the film.
Despite that, Zane shared a snippet of “Infiltrator,” which appears to originate from those sessions.
Singer Search For Re-Recorded Vocals
Because the original vocal recordings cannot be legally used, Zane has launched an open search for a vocalist capable of re-tracking the song in the style of Static.
Explaining the situation via Instagram on March 5th, Zane said:
“I want to make it clear, I’d love to finish and give Wayne’s fans his final recording but the families and Static-X aren’t allowing it. I’d give 100% of the profits of the music to Wayne’s and Tera’s family as long as the recordings were kept in their original form. They were recorded as Wayne Static solo music, not Static-X.”
Zane claims some of the material dates back to 2008 while he was directing Wray in her music series Radium, during which Static allegedly offered music for the project.
He added that while some songs written entirely by Static will remain untouched, other riffs and partial ideas may be developed further for the film’s soundtrack.
Open Call For Vocalists
In lieu of using Static’s original vocals, Zane is now inviting fans to audition by submitting recordings of themselves performing their favorite Wayne Static song.

Zane compared the idea to how Jonathan Davis recruited various singers for the soundtrack to the film Queen of the Damned when he was unable to perform the songs himself.
