Vended vocalist Griffin Taylor has offered an update on the band’s upcoming sophomore album, explaining that the group is deliberately taking more time with the follow-up to their 2024 self-titled debut.
Speaking with Rocksound over the weekend at Bloodstock Open Air, Taylor discussed the different approach the alternative metal outfit have taken with their next record. The band notably features Griffin Taylor, son of Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, on vocals and Simon Crahan, son of Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, on drums.
Taylor explained that Vended felt pressured to move quickly while working on their debut, whereas the band has been able to take a more measured approach with the upcoming album.
“[With] the first album, we were actually rushing ourselves to get it done as quickly as possible, while still putting a lot of thought and effort into it. So we were like really, really just trying to like get that shit, you know, get that ball rolling and get it out as quickly as possible. With this, with this next era of Vended, we’ve had a lot of time to take our time with it.”
According to Taylor, the additional time has allowed the members of Vended to focus more closely on the direction and message they want the new material to convey.
“We’ve been able to pace ourselves and really focus on what we’re trying to say and what we’re trying to do. And even then we’re still trying to figure it out. And I’m still trying to figure out what I’m wanting to say.”
Taylor added that he is beginning to develop a clearer idea of the artistic direction he wants to explore, although he remains tight-lipped about the specifics of the new material.
“And right now I’m at a certain, like certain spot where I have somewhat of an inkling of what I’m trying to convey, and what sort of image, sort of art that I’m trying to show the world — because it is about the world. But a lot of that is just secret secrets tell no one at this point.”
The Vended vocalist also emphasized that the band wants to maintain an element of mystery while continuing to work behind the scenes on the record.
“We are very much just trying to keep it as clean and as mysterious as possible, while still being like, ‘we are working.’ We are, you know, we’re in the tool shed, fucking getting shit put together, and it’s just gonna, it’s just taking a lot of time now, and we’re wanting it that way because we’re wanting to put a lot more of thought and effort into it.”
Vended independently released their self-titled debut album in 2024. The band has yet to announce a release date or further details for its sophomore effort.
