Vianova have found themselves dealing with an unlikely string of bad luck that has left the band without a drummer for tonight’s show in Hamburg, Germany.
The experimental melodic metalcore outfit revealed that drummer Paul Vogelgesang is currently recovering from hernia surgery and is unable to perform. To keep their scheduled appearance intact, the band enlisted Nick Oberhäuser of Masuria and Illfunction as a fill-in. However, those plans quickly unraveled when Oberhäuser was hospitalized after falling ill.
With both their drummer and his replacement unavailable, Vianova have opted to proceed with the performance using programmed drum tracks, jokingly referring to their laptop as “DrumGPT.”
The band shared the following statement with fans ahead of tonight’s show:
“Hey Hamburg,
we had some real bad luck yesterday. Unfortunately Paul could not make the show, because he is getting surgery for his hernia. A fill in drummer was supposed to help out, however he also got hospitalized yesterday because he got really ill.
We will still play the show tonight with the support of our good buddy DrumGPT aka our laptop. Hope you guys understand and still give us the same energy as a 3-piece”
While the circumstances are far from ideal, Vianova have chosen to push forward rather than cancel the performance, with drum backing tracks handling the percussion duties for the evening.
No additional information has been provided regarding Oberhäuser’s condition, while Vogelgesang is expected to focus on recovery following his procedure.
