Viscera Crown are once again stirring the pot with their latest merch concept, this time taking aim at Kublai Khan TX.
The emerging brutal death metal outfit — which features Brandon Watkins (Year Of The Knife) and Ryan Giordano (Internal Bleeding) among its ranks — has built a reputation for embracing controversy and publicly taking shots at bands they believe represent what they call “weak riff” music.
Earlier this year, the band drew attention after using social media to insult Gideon while promoting the release of their debut EP, Extreme Groove Brutality. Now, their focus has shifted toward one of modern metalcore’s most popular acts.
Viscera Crown recently shared a mock-up for a shirt featuring the phrase:
“WE KILL KUBLAI KHAN FANS.”
The design immediately sparked reactions online, with fans debating whether the shirt was meant as a joke, a publicity stunt, or a genuine shot at the Texas metalcore group.
While Kublai Khan TX have remained one of the genre’s most successful bands in recent years, they’ve also been the subject of ongoing online discussion surrounding vocalist Matt Honeycutt and his reported association with controversial internet personality Johnny Tsunami. Honeycutt has not publicly addressed those discussions.
However, based on comments accompanying the shirt reveal, Viscera Crown appear to be targeting the band strictly for musical reasons rather than any outside controversy.
Responding to fan reactions in the comments section, the group suggested their issue comes down to what they view as inferior songwriting and riffs.
Although the shirt is not currently available for purchase, the band indicated in follow-up comments that it is expected to become available within the next few weeks.
Whether fans view the design as trolling, marketing, or an actual declaration of war against one of metalcore’s biggest names, Viscera Crown continue to lean heavily into provocation as part of their identity.
