British doom stalwarts Warning have officially returned after a 20-year hiatus, announcing their first new album since 2006’s Watching from a Distance. Titled Rituals of Shame, the record is set for release on June 19 via Relapse Records and promises to continue the introspective, emotionally intense songwriting that has defined the band for decades.
Alongside the announcement, the band have shared the album’s first single, “Stations”. Vocalist and guitarist Patrick Walker, who also fronts 40 Watt Sun, spoke about the track and the long-awaited album:
“It’s my privilege to be able to present to you the first track released from Rituals of Shame. Whether you’re among those who have been waiting for this for twenty years, or whether you’re new to my music, it is with great pleasure and some relief that I can finally give you a taste of the album that will follow later in the year. I wrote and recorded the entire record throughout 2025. This is the year I shall have the honour of sharing it with you.”
Walker began writing Rituals of Shame in January 2025, dedicating three months to intensive daily writing. The album was tracked at The Arch Studio in Southport, U.K., a 140-year-old former church, with recording and mixing handled by Chris Fullard, known for his work with Idles, Sunn O))), and Ulver.
The decision to revive Warning emerged from what Walker describes as a transformative period in his life. While he remains reserved about dissecting lyrics in detail, he notes that the album continues to explore themes of longing, separation, and love — threads that have defined his songwriting since the band’s inception.
Musically, Rituals of Shame spans a wide spectrum of influences. Its expansive structures nod to the progressive ambition of Marillion, while its restraint and emotional clarity echo the minimalist storytelling of June Tabor. Walker also cites John Brenner of Revelation as a key influence, particularly in blending heavy music with deep emotional resonance.
Rituals of Shame is available to pre-order now in multiple vinyl variants, physical formats, and digital pre-saves.
