Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland says the band is preparing to return to the studio, revealing that new music is in the works and could take another step forward as early as August.
Speaking with Gear4music Guitars during Download Festival, Borland explained that the band has already completed several writing sessions and has been revisiting unfinished ideas that could make their way onto the next release.
“We’re planning on going in… I think we have some time in August that we’re planning on going in and writing. We’ve had writing sessions, and there are parts [that we may end up using in some of the new songs]. Fred and I were just listening to some riffs and some other sessions that we had from a writing session last year, and we were, like, ‘Oh, I forgot about that. I forgot about that.’ And so we’ve got some ammo to go in.”
Borland admitted that the band’s packed touring schedule has slowed progress on new material, crediting a massive resurgence in the group’s popularity over the past several years.
“…What I really need to do, and which I haven’t done in a while, before we’ve had sessions, is do homework… We’ve been so busy lately that when we’ve gone into the studio… the resurgence in our schedule has just been amazing. I don’t know whether it’s TikTok or nostalgia or what it is, but we’ve been busy, busy, busy.”
He went on to explain that Limp Bizkit’s songwriting process has always been unpredictable, recalling that the band’s iconic hit “Break Stuff” came together from what he initially considered a throwaway riff.
When it was noted that Korn frontman Jonathan Davis recently said his band feels bigger than ever, Borland agreed that Limp Bizkit is experiencing a similar career renaissance.
“We’re the biggest we’ve ever been right now. It’s crazy. And I’m not saying that in a cocky way. I’m saying that, like, we can’t believe it. We’re so lucky. I don’t know exactly how it happened, but I think people… We just get along so well now, and everybody, we’re adults, and we’re still having fun doing it, and I think that translates to the audience.”
The band’s most recent release was “Making Love To Morgan Wallen,” which debuted last year as part of a collaboration with Battlefield 6. Since then, frontman Fred Durst has made guest appearances alongside MGK and Lauren Sanderson, while Borland has also spent time in the studio with Danny Elfman.
If the band enters the studio this summer, it will mark the first recording sessions since the passing of longtime bassist Sam Rivers. It remains to be seen whether current touring bassist Richie “Kid Not” Buxton will be involved in the creative process.
