Staind vocalist/guitarist Aaron Lewis has shared his thoughts on COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccinations during a recent appearance on The Right View With Lara Trump podcast.
During the conversation, Lewis reflected on the writing process behind his 2021 gold-certified solo single “Am I The Only One,” which was written during the height of pandemic-era restrictions. He claimed the song was created while bypassing local social distancing mandates.
“Me and Jeffrey [Steele] and Ira [Dean] wrote the song in the middle of COVID shutdown. We broke the rules, and we got together and didn’t wear masks.”
Lewis also used the discussion to vent about the lockdown measures that were in place at the time, calling the period one of the most extreme experiences of his life.
“I found that to be the craziest thing that I’ve ever experienced in my 54 years on this Earth. And I never thought in a million years… I can’t even imagine all the grandfathers and the aunts and uncles and great-grandfathers that were rolling over in their grave, watching us give up every last bit of our freedom over fear.”
The Staind frontman went on to question widely reported COVID-19 fatality data and offered his own commentary on treatment outcomes during the pandemic.
“The flu kills more people than that every year. Everything else was fear. I’m pretty sure the treatments killed more people than the actual virus.”
Lewis also addressed his personal stance during the pandemic, stating that neither he nor his bandmates or employees received vaccinations, and reflected on his own experience contracting COVID-19.
“As a boss that is all about people’s rights and everything else, I didn’t get vaccinated. I didn’t make any of my employees get vaccinated. None of my band got vaccinated. And when I got it, inevitably — I’ve been way sicker. Aside from losing my taste and smell, I’ve had colds that were worse.”
