Dayseeker have officially announced a deluxe edition of their latest album, ‘Creature In The Black Night’, following an initial tease earlier this year. The expanded release is scheduled to arrive on February 26, 2027, through Spinefarm Records, and will feature a collection of reimagined tracks, live recordings, and a cover of My Chemical Romance’s “The Ghost Of You.”
The gold-certified post-hardcore outfit are previewing the deluxe edition with a new remix of “Shapeshift” by synthwave duo The Midnight. Featuring The Midnight, the reworked track gives the original a fresh ’80s-inspired electronic sound that the collaborators are already describing as “metalwave.”
Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez explained how the collaboration came together:
“I used to jam a mellow version of ‘Shapeshift’ on my piano and sending it to The Midnight and getting to hear them transform it into an ’80s synthwave version just completely blew us away. It’s a complete reinvention of the song and we feel like people will love it.”
The Midnight’s Tim McEwan also spoke about the collaboration and his desire to bring the two musical worlds together:
“We’ve always felt a deep connection to the metal community. For years, I’ve been wanting to create a genre called ‘metalwave,’ and this is the first step in that direction. Dayseeker + The Midnight just felt like the perfect fit.”
Beyond the new “Shapeshift” remix, the deluxe edition will include a cover of “The Ghost Of You,” alongside several additional reinterpretations by The Midnight. Those include remixes of “The Ghost Of You,” “Crawl Back To My Coffin,” “Bloodlust,” “The Living Dead,” and the album’s title track. The expanded release will also feature stripped-down live performances of “Shapeshift” and “Crawl Back To My Coffin” recorded for SiriusXM Octane.
Rodriguez reflected on the broader project, highlighting both the opportunity to work with The Midnight and the band’s personal connection to the My Chemical Romance cover:
“This was such an honor to collaborate with The Midnight and transform these songs in a way people have never heard before. The MCR cover of ‘Ghost of You’ is so nostalgic for all of us in the band as well and we really tried to recreate that song in our own band’s sound and image.”
The deluxe edition tracklist is as follows:
- “The Ghost Of You” (My Chemical Romance cover)
- “Shapeshift” (The Midnight Remix) (feat. The Midnight)
- “The Ghost Of You” (The Midnight Remix)
- “Crawl Back To My Coffin” (The Midnight Remix)
