Grunge metal pioneers Alice In Chains have been forced to cancel their spring tour plans after drummer Sean Kinney experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency following the band’s soundcheck at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on May 08th.
The group issued the following statement that night:
“After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency. We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”
Originally scheduled to kick off their run that evening, Alice In Chains were also set to appear at several major festivals and headlining shows throughout the month. The affected dates included:
05/10 Camden, NJ – MMRBQ
05/11 Columbus, OH – Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival
05/13 Nashville, TN – The Pinnacle (feat. Chained Saint)
05/15 Dothan, AL – Dothan Civic Center (feat. Chained Saint)
05/16 Daytona Beach, FL – Welcome To Rockville
05/17 Ocean City, MD – Boardwalk Rock
A follow-up statement from the band confirmed a broader cancellation:
“After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming festival performances and the ALICE IN CHAINS headline shows.”
They continued:
“While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment. Although the issue requires immediate attention, his long-term prognosis is positive. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time.”
There is no official word yet on whether this situation will affect their scheduled appearance at the BLACK SABBATH show in July. For now, all eyes are on Sean Kinney’s recovery.
Here’s hoping for a full and speedy return to health for Sean, and that we see ALICE IN CHAINS back on stage soon.
