Masked industrial nü-metal outfit Amerakin Overdose have released a new music video for “Parasite,” a track inspired by the band’s allegations that a promoter failed to pay the artists who performed at an August 8 show in Salem, Oregon.
The concert reportedly sold approximately 180 tickets, but Amerakin Overdose claim the promoter withheld payment from the entire lineup. The incident also drew attention from local media, with other artists reportedly coming forward with similar allegations against the promoters.
According to KGW’s reporting, the situation extended beyond unpaid performers, as the promoters were ultimately removed from working with the venue amid claims involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in back rent.
For Amerakin Overdose, the experience helped inspire “Parasite,” a song about exploitation, toxic relationships, and reclaiming control from people who take advantage of others. Vocalist Cody Perez explained the track’s meaning:
“‘Parasite’ is about the predators in your life who will take absolutely everything they can from you without a second thought, leaving you completely damaged. It’s an anthem about finally recognizing these toxic entities for what they are, taking back your power, cutting them out of your life, and burying them permanently.”
The new single channels that frustration into a broader statement about recognizing exploitative people and refusing to let them continue causing harm. With “Parasite,” Amerakin Overdose turn a dispute over alleged unpaid performance fees into a track aimed at anyone who has felt used or taken advantage of.
