Angine De Poitrine’s rapidly growing popularity was on full display over the weekend as the duo drew one of the largest crowds in recent Montreal International Jazz Festival history—though the performance also resulted in several medical emergencies.
According to The Montreal Gazette, six people were transported to hospital in serious condition following the band’s free concert at Place des Festivals in Montreal, Quebec on June 27. Festival organizers stated there was no single incident responsible for the injuries, adding that none of the concertgoers were believed to be in life-threatening condition. The nature of the injuries has not been disclosed.
The show reached capacity roughly 30 minutes before the duo took the stage, highlighting the remarkable surge in popularity Angine De Poitrine has experienced this year.
Festival director Maurin Auxéméry said the turnout marked the largest audience the Montreal International Jazz Festival has hosted since Stevie Wonder’s estimated 200,000-person performance in 2009.
The band’s rise has largely been fueled by a viral KEXP in-studio performance earlier this year, introducing a wider audience to their distinctive blend of microtonal psychedelic and progressive rock. Following the Montreal performance, Angine De Poitrine are set to continue an extensive North American touring schedule throughout the remainder of 2026.
