Avenged Sevenfold have given fans their first glimpse of STATICA in a live setting, though the debut performance came in a very unconventional fashion.
The multi-platinum alternative metal band surprised released their new four-track EP ‘STATICA’ on July 23, offering little promotion or explanation surrounding the project. Produced alongside Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age), the release finds the group experimenting with electronic textures, altered vocals and a more futuristic sound, leading to a mixed response from longtime fans.
The project received its first official acknowledgment from the band during the opening night of their new co-headlining tour with Good Charlotte on July 25 at the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, MO.
Rather than appearing as a traditional opening act, STATICA was listed as the second band on the bill, performing between Jayden Hammer and Good Charlotte. However, attendees quickly discovered the performance was unlike a typical live set.
According to fan-shot footage and reports from the show, STATICA performed the songs from the EP live from backstage, with the performance being transmitted to the audience through the venue’s video screens and stage production setup.
Later in the evening, Avenged Sevenfold took the stage for their standard headlining set, delivering a more traditional performance featuring fan favorites along with the live debut of their latest ‘Call Of Duty’ collaboration track, “Magic.”
The unusual STATICA presentation has added another layer of mystery to the band’s latest experimental release as they continue their summer run with Good Charlotte.
