Basement have reached a new milestone in the United States, with the British post-hardcore outfit now boasting their first Platinum-certified single.
The honor goes to “Covet,” the second track from the band’s 2012 sophomore album, ‘Colourmeinkindness.’ The song has experienced a notable resurgence in recent years thanks in part to its popularity across social media, introducing the track to a younger generation of listeners.
“Covet” initially achieved Gold certification in November 2024. The RIAA has now upgraded the song to Platinum, with the new certification officially awarded on August 27.
In the U.S., a Gold certification represents 500,000 certified units, while Platinum represents one million units. The RIAA’s calculations include traditional physical and digital sales as well as streaming activity, with 10 permanent track downloads counting as one unit and 150 on-demand audio or video streams of a song counting toward a track-equivalent unit.
The milestone marks another significant chapter for “Covet,” which has found a new audience more than a decade after its original release.
