British post-hardcore band Basement have released a new single and music video titled “Head Alight”, the latest preview from their upcoming fifth studio album ‘WIRED’, due out May 08.
The track marks the fourth advance release from the record, which serves as the follow-up to their 2018 album ‘Beside Myself’. The new video, directed by Kaylinn Duffy, accompanies a song that continues to showcase the band’s evolving sound.
Vocalist Andrew Fisher described how the track shifted during its creation, explaining that it began as a straightforward love song before transforming into something more abstract and atmospheric.
“What started out as a love song quickly evolved into something a lot more ethereal.”
He added that the band ultimately moved away from a dense arrangement after realizing the track worked better in a stripped-back form.
“We were really stuck with this sound… The more we added, the less I liked it. John stripped everything back and it became so much more powerful.”
Fisher noted that this approach allowed the band to step outside of their usual lyrical framing and explore more expansive themes, focusing on emotional weight and intangible connection rather than literal storytelling.
With ‘WIRED’ set to arrive in early May, “Head Alight” continues to build momentum around what will be Basement’s first full-length release in seven years.
