Bilmuri have rolled out a new single titled “I WILL LET YOU DOWN,” and it arrives with a music video featuring a guest appearance from A Day To Remember vocalist Jeremy McKinnon. The track showcases the creative partnership between Bilmuri mastermind Johnny Franck and McKinnon, with the video placing the pair in a tongue-in-cheek medieval battle scenario.
Franck recently explained that the collaboration actually began with a chance meeting at the gym. After spotting McKinnon across the room, the two struck up a conversation that quickly turned into a writing session.
“My manager, Jameson, and I like to go to the gym, get a little pump beforehand. I’m looking across the vast sea of weights, and I see Jeremy from A Day To Remember. I’ve never met him before, but we kind of both lock eyes. I get up from doing a set, and he’s walking towards me, and I’m just pumped because I’m happy to meet him — I’ve never met him, but we’ve known about each other for such a long time.”
“We chat and get to know each other and ask about tour plans and all that stuff, and then he leans into me and he’s like, ‘If you ever need any help writing, let me know’… I was like, ‘Dude, we’re writing in 30 minutes if you’d like to come by!’”
That spontaneous meet-up didn’t just produce “I WILL LET YOU DOWN.” It also led to another upcoming track titled “BACK, THEN.” The same studio session ended up turning into something of a metalcore summit as more familiar names dropped by.
During the session, Bad Omens vocalist Noah Sebastian happened to be in town and stopped through the studio, while Wage War guitarist Cody Quistad was already contributing as a writer for Bilmuri’s upcoming album.
Franck described the moment as an unexpected gathering of scene veterans.
“Noah rolls through, and it’s just, like, 20 years of metalcore sitting in a room. So, I kind of look around at all the boys, and I was like, ‘Are we cooking another song?’ It’s one of my favorite songs on the record. And if I never went to the gym that day, this song never would have happened.”
The new single will appear on Bilmuri’s forthcoming album KINDA HARD, which is scheduled to arrive April 10th via Columbia Records.
