Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler took to social media on July 7th to set the record straight about the conclusion of the band’s iconic ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell show. The historic event took place on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, marking the final live performance for both the original Black Sabbath lineup and their frontman Ozzy Osbourne.
The all-star sendoff also featured tributes from heavyweights such as Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, and Tool, celebrating the band’s monumental legacy. Millions of viewers worldwide watched the show via pay-per-view, while more than 40,000 fans packed the stadium.
However, Butler addressed confusion among fans who felt the band’s set ended abruptly on the livestream, with the group seemingly walking off stage without a proper finale. He clarified:
“I keep hearing that people watching the stream thought that our set ended abruptly…with us just walking off. Sorry if it seemed that way. I went off to get this cake for Ozzy. Cheers to the fan that captured the proper ending.”
The moment was a heartfelt celebration of Ozzy’s final show and the legacy of Black Sabbath. Proceeds from the event are being donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice. Additionally, a charity auction surrounding the event raised further funds for these causes.
