The annual Hellfest Open Air festival in Clisson, France has once again paid tribute to some of rock and metal’s most influential figures. Among this year’s new additions is a stained glass-inspired memorial dedicated to late Mastodon guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds.
The tribute was recently highlighted by Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher, with the display joining a newly unveiled statue honoring Ozzy Osbourne on the festival grounds.
Known for his free-spirited personality and distinctive contributions to heavy music, Hinds’ life was tragically cut short following a motorcycle accident on August 20th, 2025. He was 51 years old.
Beyond his decades-long tenure with Mastodon, Hinds also played in Fiend Without A Face, West End Motel, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, and several other projects.
Although Mastodon and Hinds had undergone a bitter split months before his passing, the band recently paid tribute to their former bandmate with the release of the song “Your Ghost Again.”
