Previously Uncredited Brent Hinds Guitar Feature Emerges On Marcus King Deep Cut “Red Door”

A hidden contribution from late Brent Hinds has begun circulating among fans after listeners discovered the former Mastodon guitarist performed a solo on Marcus King’s song “Red Door.”

The track appears on King’s companion release ‘No Room For Blue’, which initially arrived as a Black Friday Record Store Day exclusive before recently hitting streaming services. Because Hinds was not heavily credited on the release, his involvement largely escaped notice until this week.

Confirmation came through a social media post from Banker Handcrafted Guitars, which detailed Hinds’ time spent with The Marcus King Band during sessions at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia. According to the post, Hinds stayed with the group while they were writing and recording material connected to ‘Darling Blue’ and ultimately contributed the song’s featured guitar lead.

The post also revealed that Hinds reportedly tracked hundreds of takes before deciding on the final version used on the recording, underscoring the meticulous approach that defined much of his playing throughout his career.

The resurfaced collaboration now stands as one of the final known studio performances from Hinds following his death in August 2025 at age 51 after a motorcycle accident.
