Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has had enough of autograph seekers—and after seeing what’s hitting the resale market, his frustration feels more justified than ever.
A recent encounter between Moreno and a group of so-called fans was caught on video, showing the singer surrounded on the street by people holding stacks of Deftones vinyl and memorabilia. While he initially signed a few items, his patience quickly wore thin. Before walking off, Moreno told the crowd:
“Go ahead and tell your friends I’m not doing this shit no more. You guys go online in your little groups and shit, tell people I’m not signing shit no more. I signed these right now, but let them know I’m not signing anything.”
The clip sparked mixed reactions online. Some viewed Moreno’s response as harsh, while others pointed out the obvious—that many of these individuals were likely resellers, not genuine fans. With signed Deftones items consistently fetching high prices, particularly amid the band’s renewed popularity on platforms like TikTok, it’s no surprise that autograph flippers are circling like vultures.
A Deftones fan on Reddit recently compiled a gallery of current eBay listings featuring autographed records and merch from Chino and the rest of the band. The items—some priced as high as $440 USD—were linked to memorabilia vendor Coast To Coast Collectibles, who appear to have acquired a fresh batch of signed albums from Moreno.
Although none of the listings include proof directly tying them to the viral street encounter, several feature Moreno wearing clothing similar to what he’s been spotted in on their current U.S. arena tour.
Autograph flipping has long been a frustration for artists, much like ticket reselling. It’s a booming market that profits off the artist’s name—without putting a cent back in their pocket. For someone like Chino Moreno, who’s built a career on authenticity and creative control, it’s clear this trend has reached its breaking point.
Yeah no wonder he got fed up

I went to the White Pony record release at midnight in NJ. But the White Pony was the album that lost me with the Deftones. So I just went with my buddy who bought the album, I’m not sure if he got it signed but I wish I got one now lol.
