Deathcore guitarist Chris Garza has confirmed that he is currently stepping away from Suicide Silence, addressing his absence from the band’s recent live shows in a statement shared to social media this morning (December 08th).
The musician — who also hosts the Garza Podcast — explained that after more than two decades of nonstop focus on the band, he’s taking time to reset:
“What’s up everyone,
As some of you have noticed, I’ve missed the last couple Suicide Silence shows. It’s because I’m on a hiatus from the band. SuSi has been on my brain every day since 2002 with no break. Everything is fine. I just need to press the reset button so I can make the right decisions in the near future. As the Terminator said. I’ll be back. –Garza”
This isn’t the first time a member has temporarily stepped away from the lineup. Guitarist Mark Heylmun notably took what he called a “radical sabbatical” in 2018 before eventually rejoining the group.

Kieran Barkovsky garza is in full control of the band. There will not be SS without Garza, and he did say this. Saying if It doesnt feel right, he will close the band.

Dude has one of the best podcasts in the scene as well as being the OG in one of the scenes biggest, most influential deathcore bands.
He has earned a break!
I really would love one more opportunity to see suicide silence again in Australia with Garza hopefully
It’s kinda saddening to realise not all these bands will last forever after 20 plus years but we were extremely privileged to see these bands grow and be at the cutting edge of extreme music and create a lasting legacy
The band died years ago with Mitch
Dave Niebauer you obviously haven’t heard any of the new records
Logan Irwin I have
The new records are “decent” at best imo
Kinda saw it coming, he seems to be enjoying his podcast more, and the band doesn’t seem to have any direction for now
They suck anyway. Bring in new blood. Not one tube stands out. Sub par band
Band ain’t gonna get any bigger really haven’t been doing much as of late
