The metal and deathcore community is mourning the loss of former Elysia guitarist Danny Lomeli, whose passing was announced by the band on July 30th.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Elysia revealed the sudden loss of their longtime friend and bandmate, reflecting on the impact he had on both the group and their lives.
The band wrote:
“We are so sorry to announce the sudden passing of Elysia guitarist, Danny Lomeli. It can’t be put into words how much this hurts and how much we will miss him.”
According to the statement, Lomeli joined Elysia in 2007 and remained a close friend to the band’s members throughout the years. The group credited him as being a driving force behind the band’s recent reunion and reformation.
“Danny first joined the band in 2007 and we’ve all been inseparable friends with him ever since. He was an integral part in the reformation and reunion of the band. He put so much work into making it come to fruition and he loved each moment with every fiber of his being.”
The band also reflected on the memories created during the reunion, expressing gratitude for the time they were able to spend together over the past year.
“Danny, this new reality of life without you is terrifying and heartbreaking. We are so grateful for the incredible new memories that the Elysia reunion allowed us to make with you.”
Elysia explained that the extensive rehearsals, performances, and time spent together during the reunion period ultimately became far more meaningful than any discussion about the band’s legacy.
“We’ve all wondered what the big meaning was to our reunion, what it represented, and what impact it would have on the band’s legacy. It turns out, none of that really matters. It was all just so we could spend more time together and feel so much more closer to you.”
The statement concluded with a request for privacy and understanding as Lomeli’s family, friends, and bandmates navigate the difficult loss.
The band noted that Danny Lomeli’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses, memorial services, and other final costs associated with his passing.
